Hawaii Forest & Trail – Volcano, Chocolate & Waterfalls (From Kona, Waikoloa & Hilo)

Spend a few hours walking through Hawaii Volcanoes National Park instead of only seeing it from the road. This guided hike covers up to 3 miles and brings you closer to the park’s native forest, volcanic terrain, steam vents, lava tubes and crater scenery.

The exact route depends on current conditions, which keeps the experience flexible. Your naturalist guide may lead you across older lava flows, along quieter trails, through forested sections or toward viewpoints near Halema'uma'u Crater, depending on volcanic activity, weather and trail access that day.

As you hike, you’ll learn more about the land beneath your feet, the plants and wildlife around you and the Hawaiian stories connected to this remarkable place. It is a more personal way to experience the park, with time to slow down and notice details you would miss from a quick stop.
