Oahu Humpbacks and Winter Water

Oahu Whale Watching

Oahu whale watching follows the winter return of Pacific humpback whales, with cruises from Waikiki, Honolulu Harbor, Haleiwa and West Oahu. Look for blows, tail flukes and breaches from the deck while the boat tracks the season’s movement along the coast.

About this experience

Oahu Whale Watching

Your Oahu Whale Watching Cruise

Oahu whale watching is a winter ocean tour, usually running from December through April when Pacific humpback whales return to Hawaii's warm waters. Some cruises leave from Waikiki or Honolulu Harbor, while others head out from Haleiwa on the North Shore or from West Oahu's leeward coast.

Each area gives the search a slightly different feel. Waikiki cruises keep Diamond Head and the city skyline nearby, North Shore trips run along a coastline known for frequent whale sightings, and West Oahu sails follow a quieter stretch of leeward shoreline.

Choose by departure area, cruise length, boat style and what is included on board. Some whale watch cruises have naturalists, hydrophones, lunch or drinks, but sightings depend on the whales, ocean conditions and the day's route.
