Your Oahu Surf Lesson

An Oahu surf lesson starts with the board in the sand, your instructor talking through the basics and everyone pretending they are totally calm about standing up in front of strangers. Then the water takes over, and the first little ride makes all the wobbly practice worth it.

Hans Hedemann Surf School offers group surf lessons in Waikiki, private lessons in Waikiki or on the North Shore, and specialty lessons for visitors who want more direct coaching. Kailua Beach Adventures adds stand-up paddleboard lessons and self-guided SUP time along Kailua's long beach and offshore island views.

Choose by beach area, lesson style, comfort level and whether you want surfing or stand-up paddling. Group lessons keep things social, private lessons give more one-on-one help and SUP options are a nice match for calmer windward water when conditions line up.
