KapohoKine Adventures – Elite Volcano Hike Kona

About KapohoKine Adventures - Elite Volcano Hike Kona

Hike with KapohoKine Adventures on an Elite Volcano Hike from Kona featuring Hawaii Volcanoes National Park scenery, lava landscapes and guided Big Island geology.

Kapohokine Adventures 13 hours

Cross the Big Island from Kona toward the powerful volcanic landscapes of Kilauea on a hiking adventure filled with lava fields, crater views and stories shaped by fire. The drive follows Saddle Road between Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa, two of the tallest and most massive volcanoes on Earth, while your National Park Service certified guide shares insight into the island's volcanology and geology.

The first stop is Kaumana Caves, part of the lava tube system that carried lava to within 1.5 miles of downtown Hilo in 1881. Step inside the dramatic cathedral-like space before continuing through Hilo's historic waterfront and stopping at the KapohoKine Adventures store to pick up supplies.

Inside Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, see the lasting changes created by the 2018 eruption before enjoying a picnic lunch. The guided Halema'uma'u trail hike covers approximately 3 miles and descends toward the caldera floor, where the landscape was dramatically altered during the eruption.

After the hike, continue to other remarkable areas of the park, including the Mauna Ulu lava flow, where you can look for Pele's tears and lava trees. The tour also visits the older Nahuku lava tube hidden within the rainforest before ending with dinner at one of the locals' favorite restaurants in Volcano Village.
