Hawaii Forest & Trail – Hidden Craters Hike Kona

Explore a side of Hualalai that most visitors never get to see. This guided hike crosses private land on the upper slopes of Kona’s dormant volcano, passing through locked gates and into a landscape shaped by past eruptions, native forest and rugged volcanic terrain.

Along the 3- to 4-mile route, you’ll walk beside a roughly 200-year-old lava flow, see spatter cones and deep fissures, and stand near crater edges that reveal just how dramatic the mountain can be up close. The trail also moves through cloud forest before leading into a lava tube, where a rope-assisted descent helps you enter a passage once carved by flowing molten rock.
