Guided across private land, you'll trace the footprints of 19th-century eruptions, walking past a 200-year-old lava flow, jagged spatter cones and fissures that crack deep into the earth.

The route winds through misty cloud forest before descending earthen steps—rope assist included—into a hidden lava tube, a subterranean passage once alive with molten rock. With only the sound of birds and your own footsteps, the hike delivers an intimate look at the raw, evolving landscape that shapes Hawaii Island.
