About Smith's Tropical Paradise - Wailua River Cruise
Glide up Kauai's gentle Wailua River, the only navigable waterway in Hawaii, on a roomy open-air boat. Fed by frequent rains on Mount Waialeale, the river winds through jungle scenery while musicians onboard share stories and songs of old Hawaii. You might even join a quick hula lesson before the boat ties off at the Fern Grotto landing.
A short, shaded walk leads to Fern Grotto—a lava cave draped in green fronds and blooming orchids. It's a favorite backdrop for photos and one of the island's signature natural sights. Pair the cruise with Smith's evening luau for a full day of river views, garden paths and island flavors, or simply add a Garden Stroll ticket to wander the lush grounds on your own schedule.
Garden Stroll Optional Add-On
If you aren't attending Smith's Luau but still want time in the Tropical Paradise gardens, purchase a Garden Stroll admission. The grounds are open daily from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm. (Luau guests can explore the garden after check-in.)
