About Hilo Ocean Adventures - Royal Humpback Whale Experience
Head out from Hilo for a small-group winter whale watching cruise with Hilo Ocean Adventures. Watch for humpback whales off the Big Island, with local snacks and drinks included and a snorkel upgrade available.
Each winter, the waters off Hilo welcome thousands of North Pacific humpback whales after their long migration from Alaska. From mid-December through the end of March, these gentle giants arrive in Hawaii to mate, give birth and care for their newborn calves, creating a remarkable season for whale watching along the Big Island.
Head out from Hilo's port with Hilo Ocean Adventures and watch for breaches, tail slaps and other unforgettable whale behavior in their natural habitat. After traveling approximately 6,000 miles during a migratory journey lasting 6–8 weeks, an estimated 12,000 humpback whales make the Hawaiian Islands their winter home.
You can also upgrade to the Whale Song Snorkel Package for a full sensory experience. While snorkeling in Hawaii's clear waters, listen for the sounds of humpback whales beneath the surface. The package includes a snorkel set, fins and optional life jacket.

Restrictions
Minimum Age: 8 years
Guests should be comfortable on a boat and prepared for ocean conditions. Light rain is common in Hilo and part of the adventure!
Whales are wild animals and sightings cannot be guaranteed. Although whales may be seen anytime from December–April, February typically offers the most consistent sightings. During the early and late season we also visit waterfalls up the coast in case whale sightings are low.
Special Notes
This is an ocean adventure outside the protection of the bay. Expect wind, ocean spray, and natural boat movement - you will likely get wet!
