About Introductory Beach Scuba Dive
Try scuba from the beach in Hilo with classroom time, pool instruction and a guided ocean dive at a shallow reef. This introductory dive is designed for non-certified divers who meet the health and swimming requirements.
Take your first breath underwater with a guided beach dive designed especially for non-certified divers. This introductory experience begins with clear, step-by-step instruction before moving into the pool for hands-on practice and then out to one of Hilo's pristine ocean reefs.
A professionally trained scuba instructor stays with you throughout the experience, making this a comfortable choice for beginners and for certified divers who want to introduce family or friends to scuba. The open-water dive reaches a depth of around 20 feet, offering a memorable first look at Hilo's underwater world.
Tour Inclusions
- Instructional material, all gear and dive instructor
- 45 minute classroom instruction, 45 minute pool instruction, and 45 minute ocean dive for an approximate total of 4 hours
- Dive depth is around 20 feet

Once checked in at the dive shop, transportation will be provided to the dive site.
Restrictions
Minimum Age: 10 years
All participants must be able to converse and understand detailed instructions in English.
All participants must be able to swim unassisted in the open ocean and able to use a snorkel or regulator.
All participants must be in good physical condition and must be able to carry 50 lbs of equipment on their back unassisted. Those with lung problems or other major medical issues should contact Hilo Ocean Adventures before booking.
All participants must complete and submit the Diver Medical Questionnaire 72 hours prior to the excursion (provided after booking).
Participants must successfully complete the classroom and pool portion of the program to proceed to the ocean dive component.
Trips go rain or shine, unless Hilo Ocean Adventures must cancel for the safety of guests.
Special Notes
Please use Reef Safe sunscreen. This is sunscreen that does not contain oxybenzone, which is the leading cause of reef stress and coral bleaching.
