About Mauna Lani Luau - Hale Hoaloha
Spend the evening oceanfront at Mauna Lani Resort on the historic Kalahuipua'a shoreline, with a welcome cocktail, Hawaiian games, imu ceremony, island-inspired buffet and a show honoring Hawaii Island stories, hula and fire-knife dancing.
As evening settles over the historic shoreline of Kalahuipua'a, Mauna Lani welcomes guests to a luau shaped by the stories, landscapes and traditions of Hawaii Island. This oceanfront setting has long been regarded as the piko, or center, of five great volcanoes: Haleakala, Kohala, Mauna Kea, Mauna Loa and Hualalai. Long ago, Hawaiian families cared for royal fishponds here and gathered beside the sea to share food, music and stories.
The evening begins on the Hoaloha lawn with a complimentary cocktail, traditional makahiki games and live island music beneath the open sky. Guests then gather for the imu ceremony, where the kalua pork that has been slowly roasting underground since morning is uncovered while the meaning of this traditional cooking method is shared.
Dinner features a generous buffet inspired by the farms, ranches and waters of the Big Island. As you dine, hula and mele bring the legends of Kalahuipua'a to life. The full evening production honors the surrounding mountains, Hawaiian history and island culture before building to an exciting fire-knife finale.
