Myths of Maui by the ocean

Royal Lahaina Luau

Royal Lahaina Luau presents Myths of Maui at Royal Lahaina Resort & Bungalows, with oceanfront views, Hawaiian cuisine, music, hula and Polynesian storytelling on Kaanapali Beach.

Royal Lahaina Luau

The Royal Lahaina Luau—also known as the Myths of Maui—unfolds on the north end of Kaanapali Beach, where tiki torches flicker against a golden sky and gentle surf rolls in just beyond the stage. You arrive to a fresh orchid lei and a tropical welcome drink, then wander photo spots under coconut palms while slack-key guitar drifts across the lawn.

The evening opens with the imu ceremony. A conch shell calls everyone to gather as chefs lift a whole kalua pig from its underground oven, the smoky aroma setting the mood for the feast ahead. Dinner is served buffet-style and invites you for seconds: slow-roasted pork, ginger-soy chicken, island-caught fish, sweet-potato mash, lomi salmon, crisp island greens and haupia coconut squares for dessert. Unlimited soft drinks flow all night, and the open bar keeps mai tais, local beer and house wine ready with no long waits.

After plates are cleared, the lights dim for a journey across Polynesia. Graceful hula tells Maui legends under soft ukulele, Tahitian drums quicken the pulse with hip-whipping otea, and a Samoan fire-knife finale sends arcs of sparks into the night sky mere steps from your table. Narration connects each dance to the voyages that once linked the Pacific, turning the show into a living story rather than a simple revue.

Seating tiers let you choose your vantage point. Standard tables offer an easy view of both ocean and stage, while the Alii upgrade brings priority entrance, closer seating and a souvenir drink tumbler. Every guest, however, enjoys the same shoreline sunset, buffet spread and open bar. Professional photographers roam throughout the evening; digital downloads land in your inbox before breakfast.

Plan to arrive by 5:15 pm for sunset photos and pre-show activities. Free parking is available at the Royal Lahaina Resort garage just a short walk from the luau entrance, and resort staff guide you from curb to lawn in minutes. Wear sandals for sandy paths and bring a light layer—the coastal breeze turns cool once the torches replace the sun.
