Experience Nutridge Luau

Experience Nutridge Luau invites you to spend an evening high above Honolulu at historic Nutridge Estate, a 22-acre macadamia orchard tucked into the rainforest on Mount Tantalus. As you step onto the lawn, city lights shimmer far below and warm trade winds carry the scent of flowers from the garden. A kukui-nut lei and a friendly "aloha" set the tone for a relaxed, interactive gathering that tops out at about 70 guests—small enough for you to chat with the hosts, learn a few Hawaiian words and still find plenty of elbow room at every activity station.

Before the imu ceremony, guides lead you through groves once harvested by Hollywood stars and Hawaiian royalty, sharing stories of the estate's 1920s heyday. You help unwrap ti leaves from the slow-roasted kalua pig, then sample fresh poi, slice coconut and weave a lauhala headband. Slack-key guitar and 'ukulele keep a mellow soundtrack rolling while you pick up basic hula steps on the lawn—laughter encouraged, photos welcome.

Dinner mirrors the view: colorful and local. Kalua pork anchors the buffet beside pineapple-glazed fish, ginger-soy chicken, haupia-sweet-potato mash, island greens and lilikoi dressing. Vegetarians find tofu stir-fry and farm-fresh produce, and kids gravitate toward sweet-bread rolls and fruit skewers. Non-alcoholic drinks flow freely, and a cash bar pours local beer, wine and tropical cocktails once the imu is unveiled.

With plates cleared, Samoan fire-knife dancers whirl blazing blades against the Honolulu skyline. Musicians and narrators introduce each Polynesian segment—Tahitian drums, Samoan slap dance, Maori poi—tying the stories to the ancient ocean crossings that linked the Pacific long before jets and smartphones.

The drive up scenic Round Top Drive takes about 20 minutes from Waikiki, and free parking waits inside the gated estate. Wear comfortable sandals for grassy paths and bring a light jacket for the cool mountain breeze. Looking for more island evenings under the stars?
