The
Feast at Lele
505 Front Street
Rekindle the romance in a spectacular setting where every
table is intimate and offers a panoramic view of the West
Maui sunsets. Lele is the ancient name for Lahaina, and is
the beach where the royal family of Maui would feast and entertain.
Summon your spirit of adventure, and let your senses be aroused.
Your
evening begins with a flower lei greeting
on the beach in Lahaina. Then sit back, relax, and enjoy the
most unique cultural celebration on Maui! Journey through
the island nations of Hawaii, Tonga, Tahiti and Samoa with
authentic dance and music. And enjoy a culinary journey at
the same time! Before each segment of the show begins, they
serve you an exquisitely prepared dish, reflective of the
island nation it represents, courtesy of their award-winning
chef, Robert "Lopaka" Aguiar.
Each
presentation is designed with authenticity in mind. From the
costumes, to the dances and the music they have striven to
provide you with an authentic presentation, courtesy of award
winning director, Robert "Lopaka" Aquiar.
Your tour
begins in the beautiful island home of Hawaii, in the northern
most point in the Polynesian triangle. With great courage
and incredible navigational skills, the early Polynesian voyagers
reached these shores using the stars and their knowledge of
ocean currents.
The show starts with
the Hula of Hawaii - quite simply poetry in motion. Elegant
and refined, a hula dancer's movements flow with the music.
Next they journey to the land of the long white cloud, Aotearoa
- New Zealand. It is home to the Maori people. Their culture
is rich in song and dance, intertwined with strong oratory
skills. You will notice their facial tattoos or moko. This
was used to symbolize ones geneology and personal identity.
The men perform for you the Haka, a war dance that was used
to intimidate their enemies. Then, the women perform and exciting
dance using poi balls which are used to imitate the actions
and rythyms in nature.
Go
along to Tahiti, land of intrigue and romance, capturing the
imagination, from the verdant majesty of its mountains rising
out of the mist to the startling clarity of color in it's
coral lagoons. Tahiti is considered by many as the image of
Polynesia, and throughout it's history, Thaiti has beckoned
explorers from around the world.
Sit back and enjoy the sensual swing of the hips and the pulsing
rythym of the ancient drums, which combine to create a titillating
dance performance.
Your evenings journey ends at Samoa, "the cradle of Polynesia".
Literally the sacred center of it's fiery soul. The islands
of Samoa reflect their age in a lush jungle shrouded paradise.
Even today, thatched roof fales can be seen dotting the coastlines
where island homes are open to nature and the island people
to their hearts.
For the Feast at Lele finale, staccato slapping of legs and
feet and rythmic clapping of hands punctuate the energetic
and vigorous Samoan dance. The famed fire knife dance is a
fitting end to the show.
