HALEPALAOA BEACH
(East Coast)
Accessible by 4-WD vehicles on the Kikoa Point Trail. About a mile long, one of the nicest beaches on the northeastern side of the island. Ideal for strolling and sunbathing but not recommended for swimming.

HULOPOE BEACH PARK
(South Coast)
Hulopoe Bay is located approximately 7 miles from Lanai City at the end of Manele Road (Rte. 440) at Hulopoe Bay.
A long, wide crescent of white sand that is the most popular picnicking and swimming beach on Lanai. Excellent for snorkeling and occasional body and board surfing. A large tidal pool provides a safe swimming pool for little children.
A protected place - a Marine Life Sanctuary and underwater Marine Park. Dolphins often seen offshore. Lanai's official camping area - and only surfing spot. Restrooms, outdoor showers, grills, picnic tables, drinking water.

KAHEMANO BEACH
(East Coast)
Accessible by several 4-WD trails leading from the Keomuku Road (Rte. 430 North) Kahemano means "school of sharks", since the area attracts Lalakea, the common Hawaiian reef shark. The area is frequented primarily by fishermen. Not a swimming beach.

KAUMALAPAU HARBOR
(West Coast)
Directions: From Lanai City take the Kaumalapau Highway (Rte. 440) approx. 6 miles to the end of the road. Lanai's only interisland shipping terminal. The wharf is a popular shoreline fishing spot and the Harbor's crystal clear waters attract a few swimmers. A scenic overlook affords dramatic views of the sea, high bluffs,
and the jagged 1,000 foot cliffs that surround the harbor.

KEOMOKU BEACH
(East Coast)
Located at the end of Keomoku Road (Rte. 430). The beach encompasses over
six miles of shoreline stretching from Kahokunui to Halepalaoa Landing. A 4-WD is needed to reach this area. A long series of narrow black detrital sand beaches. Offshore is one of the longest stretches of fringing reef in Hawaii. Ruins of two ancient fishponds. An area frequented by fishermen, beachcombers, and a variety of shoreline seabirds.

LOPA BEACH
(East Coast)
Accessible from several 4-WD vehicle trails branching off the Keomuku Road.
A fairly long white sand beach with safe swimming when waters are calm.
Secluded and pristine. Famous for its fishpond, Loko Lopa - one of the four ancient Hawaiian fishponds on Lanai.

MANELE BAY
(South Coast)
Located approximately eight miles below Lanai City at the end of Manele Road
(Rte. 440) The only public boat harbor on the Island of Lanai and the main port for yachts, fishing boats and a ferry transporting people to and from Maui.
There is a tiny pocket of white sand in the left corner of the bay. Offshore is
shallow and rocky and not highly regarded for swimming, but excellent for
snorkeling, diving, and fishing.
(Manele Bay is part of the Manele-Hulopoe Marine Life Conservation District.)

NAHA BEACH
(East Coast)
Take Keomoku Road (Rte. 430) from Lanai City. At the end of the paved portion a dirt road branches right along the coast. The dirt road ends at Naha. A 4-WD is needed to reach Naha.
A former fishing village and site of one of the four ancient fishponds on Lanai.
A narrow beach overhung with Kiawe trees. An area frequented primarily by fishermen. When at Naha, look for the Naha Trail paved by Hawaiians more than a century ago. This trail is now a jeep road leading to an old village site. Legend and history live side by side at Naha.

POLIHUA BEACH
(North Coast)
Located approximately 11 miles north of Lanai City. Accessible by 4-WD
vehicles only from the Polihua Trail at the end of Polihua Road.
One of the most famous green sea turtle nesting beaches in Hawaii and a
good place to watch whales (in season). Over 1-1/2 miles of white sand.
Windswept - susceptible to sand storms and dangerous currents. Water
conditions can be extremely hazardous - not safe for swimming. Surfing
when water conditions are right for expert surfers only.

PUU PEHE (Sweetheart Rock)
(South Coast)
Reached by following the shoreline from the left side of Hulopoe Beach.
A large cove lined with a white sand beach. A sea stack known as
Sweetheart Rock lies offshore. According to legend, Puu Pehe, a young girl,
drowned in a sea cave. Her lover, with help from the Gods, carried her body
to the summit and buried her beneath the ruins of what is believed to be an ancient bird shrine. The cove's very clear waters contain an abundance of
marine life affording excellent swimming and snorkeling.

SHIPWRECK BEACH (KAIOLOHIA)
(North Coast)
Accessible by 4-WD vehicle from the end of Keomoku Road (Rte. 430).
Polihua Beach to Kahokunui. Primary activities are beachcombing and
shoreline fishing. Two shipwrecks are still visible. A shore stroller's
paradise, a real beachcomber's boutique. Home to some thought-provoking
petroglyphs - the Bird Man of Lanai.
