One of Kauai's most famous waterfalls is Wailua Falls.
Remember the television show "Fantasy Island"? These falls
were featured in the opening credits just before Tattoo shouted,
"Da Plane, Da Plane".

A quick five minute drive from Lihue, through sugar cane fields
and past a local memorial park, you will be face to face with this
massive watery display.

No hiking is required for viewing, just pull your car up to the side
of the road and grab your camera. Mornings are the most pristine
viewing times as the sun will be facing the falls. The strong and
sure-footed may want to brave the slippery trail down to the
bottom of the falls and take a dip in the cool pool. The trail starts
at the beginning of the viewing turnoff, but please be extremely
careful as it is a very steep and possibly dangerous descent.

You get to the falls by heading north from Lihue, past Walmart
and Wilcox Hospital and then on your left is HWY 56. At the
bottom of Kapaia Valley, before you head back up, you'll see a
sign on your left. If you miss the turn, go to the top of the hill and
turn around. The road to the falls is a little bumpy but well worth
the trip.
